They just don't get it

The Aker Philadelphia Shipyard is one of the few shipyards in the U.S. that is currently employing Americans to build ocean going commercial ships. It has succeeded where most others have failed. Although the Jones Act requires ships for the U.S. domestic trades to be built in the U.S., it does not compel anyone to buy those ships. Unless a yard can build a ship at a price that makes commercial sense within the economics of the Jones Act trade, there will be no customers.
