FEDERAL FUNDING GIVES FERRIES A BOOST

Ferries will get a big boost over the the next four fiscal years, thanks to $247 million in federal grants. The grants are authorized as part of the Ferry Boat Discretionary (FBD) Program in the Safe, Accountable, Flexible, Efficient Transportation Equity Act: A Legacy for Users (SAFETEA-LU, Public Law 109-59). SAFETEA-LU continues the FBD program that was created by Section 1064 of the Intermodal Surface Transportation Efficiency Act of 1991 and continued in Section 1207 of the Transportation Equity Act for the 21st Century (TEA-21).
