Rowan jack-up gets two-year contract

Rowan Companies, Inc. (Nyse:Rdc) has signed a two-year contract with Devon Energy Corporation for the Gorilla class jack-up, Gorilla II, in the Gulf of Mexico. Class jack-up rig capable of drilling in water depths of 450 feet, with a drilling depth of 30,000 feet. The contract is expected to begin in January 2009 and generate $137 million in drilling revenues. The rig will be performing drilling services, as well as assisting Devon with various construction projects. Rowan Chairman and CEO Danny McNease commented, "We believe that this market will continue to recognize and reward contractors with premium equipment and experienced drilling personnel, and we look forward to additional opportunities."
