Ship owners looking to sell their aging hulks to scrap yards may very well be singing, "Breaking up is hard to do." That's because not only are scrap yards in India and Bangladesh fully booked, but there are plenty of other ships waiting to be demolished. The situation, says Germany's Eckhardt Marine GmbH, has shipowners debating whether to wait for a price improvement or sell at 25% less than they could have gotten just ten days earlier.rnIn its weekly report from April 20, Eckhardt Marine says this may explain why so many vessels remain unsold on the market as owners resist current market levels between $220 and $230 per long ton lightweight for dry cargo units and between $225 and $235 for per long ton lightweight for tankers.
