Rowan exercises option for third GustoMSC driill ship

Drilling contractor Rowan Companies, Inc., has exercised its option to build a third GustoMSC P10,000 design ultra-deepwater drillship with Hyundai Heavy Industries Co., Ltd. Delivery is scheduled for the fourth quarter of 2014. The GustoMSC P10,000 design is capable of drilling wells to depths of 40,000 feet in waters of up to 12,000 feet. The cost for this rig, including commissioning, project management and spares, but excluding capitalized interest, is estimated to be approximately S600 million, or slightly below the cost of the first two, similarly equipped drillships ordered back in June.
