New Yorkers have a special connection with the water. Everyone who lives in New York City, except for those in The Bronx, lives on an island. For me that connection with the water, particularly ferries, became more profound after 9-11.At first, when I heard the explosion, I thought there had been an accident at the construction site next to our building. That was until a co-worker stood up and yelled across the office, "Jesus Christ, open up the blinds! A plane just hit the World Trade Center."
