At least 113 deaths in the U.S. have been attributed to Hurricane Sandy, 42 of those in New York City, according to an announcement by New York Mayor Michael Bloomberg at a press conference on Nov. 4. Many of those deaths occurred in Zone A evacuation areas on the New York City waterfront. The storm surge from Sandy also wreaked havoc on ferry and cruise terminals, piers, marinas, vehicle and subway tunnels, industrial facilities and waterfront infrastructure, causing extensive damage.
