While the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) is enforcing regulations that stipulate all vessels over 24 m in length operating in U.S. waters must switch over to Environmentally Acceptable Lubricants (EALs) in all oil-to-sea interfaces before their next drydocking, bearings provider Thordon Bearings Inc., believes it has a better approach. Thordon suggests that ship operators have an greater advantage if they turn to the world's most inexpensive, environmentally safe and most readily available lubricant available: seawater.
