IN GOOD NEWS for shipbuilder Fincan-tieri Marinette Marine, Lockheed Martin Corp., Baltimore, Md., has been awarded a $1,955,776,266 contract for the detail design and construction of four Multi Mission Surface Combatant ships (MMSC) for the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. The MMSC is based on the Freedom variant of the Navy's Littoral Combat Ship (LCS) class and, like the Freedom LCS, the four Saudi ships are slated to be built at Fincantieri Marinette Marine.
