Today's trends in the naval sector are reinforcing the requirement for increased ship speeds and endurance, whilst, attention is also being paid to reducing through life costs, a large component of which is associated with a ship's complement and the supporting ship systems. As ship systems develop in complexity and become more interdependent, evaluation and trade-off considerations are now being taken through an integrated perspective. This includes the selection and interface of the propulsion and power system and the ship structure, its services, auxiliary systems and ancillaries in support of the ships required operational objectives.
