AUTOMATED INSPECTION FOR LNG TANK WELDS

Discovery has learnt of an innovative system for faster inspection of spherical LNG tank welds. The system detects flaws which could affect tank structural integrity by combining two types of ultrasonic detection techniques: pulse reflection and Time of Flight Diffraction (TOFD). Welds have to be non-destructively inspected along their entire length to ensure that the tank construction meets the quality required for safely transporting LNG at super-cold temperatures.
