The Marine School ot South Shields

This Book has been produced to mark 150 years of marine training in South Shields and covers the life of the marine school in 72 pages. The first six pages are devoted to the life of Dr Winterbottom, the founder, followed by details of how the first school was set up in what is now the town's museum. It records the opening of the first custom-built premises and problems associated with staffing due to limited funding. Each of the 'headmasters' is introduced. It goes on to describe the gradual introduction of new departments such as engineering, radio, electrical and the arrival of radio and simulation.
