摘要

Every half decent engineer knows that despite all those questing inquiries from the mariners up top about data for their propeller 'slip' calculations, it is the effects of head winds that are most regularly underestimated by those who design ships and those who drive them. When the Master makes some disparaging remark about the quality of the fuel, or the fact that today's run was a bit of a disappointment, the Chief will be well within his rights to comment that if the Master insists on taking a course in which a brisk breeze is taken right on the bow, there can be little surprise at the ship's performance.
