Currently there is a move to switch to LNG as a fuel for shipping as it offers minimal emissions when burnt and is currently substantially cheaper than heavy fuel oil. Much has been written on this subject, discussing the problems of establishing a global supply network, how to arrange bunker capacity for LNG in a vessel, and the different views on how the price of LNG will evolve in the future. At the same time the shipping industry is once again looking at other means of developing power that do not rely on fuel oil and which could be even cleaner.
