Offshore opportunities

Although the past few years have proved difficult for shipping, the offshore sector has grown from strength to strength. Deep water oil wells continue to multiply (albeit slowly in the wake of the Gulf of Mexico incident), shale gas is being touted as the answer to lowering US dependence on energy imports and fracking is in headlines around the world. Shipping traditionally served as a means of transport, but as efforts have moved in to deeper waters and technology has improved, there are many vessels playing a more active role such as FPSOs and FSRUs that require trained personnel.
