Tests have proven that the EU's global navigation satellite system (GNSS) Galileo can improve the accuracy of location and positioning when used in conjunction with existing services, GPS and Glonass. Rx Networks and the European GNSS Agency (GSA) tested Galileo's ability as a position reference and concluded that it enhanced location accuracy by up to 30 per cent. Each test consisted of a three-hour data capture of GNSS signals, which was later replayed to produce hundreds of fixes using a multi-constellation GNSS receiver from STMicroelectronics. The results showed that using Galileo with one or more other GNSS constellations provides significantly more accurate location fixes compared with GPS on its own.
