UK company BMT Smart has developed a torque meter for its ship performance monitoring system to provide accurate digital data from engine shafts. It can be fitted on shaft sizes from 15cm diameter to 120cm and provides real-time information on shaft thrust, bending and dynamic torque, as well as speed and running hours. The meter allows stator mounting tolerances of up to 15mm for large rotors and has a high sample rate, allowing analysis of both shaft and transmitter. It can be fitted on newbuildings or can be retrofitted to existing vessels.
