Shipowners are recognising the operational benefits of upgrading the satellite communications equipment on their vessels. They also see the benefits of offering more crew welfare options to raise morale and retention levels. Analysts at Euroconsult forecast that revenues from the global maritime satellite communications market will increase by 8 per cent per annum during the next 10 years. In that time, the number of maritime terminals will rise on average by 6 per cent per year. The analysts estimated that in 2015 total revenue for service providers in the maritime market was US$1.6 billion and satellite operator revenue was US$816 million.
