More still needs to be done for autonomous shipping

Much has been achieved on the development of autonomous ships and remotely-controlled surface vessels, but we are way behind on regulation and insurance changes that are needed for their commercial implementation. We have seen a number of advances in ship design, connectivity, remote monitoring and control of vessels and system engineering that will drive maritime industries towards autonomous ships. But will all this be in vain if shipowners cannot get insurance and reassurance from regulations?
