Across Africa and the Middle East, the pace of development of modern retailers continues, albeit at different speeds in different markets. According to Planet Retail's latest ranking of the Top 30 Grocery Retailers in the region, the traditional hot spots of development continue to be South Africa, Israel and Dubai, where market concentration and development of modern retail chains are at more advanced levels than elsewhere in the region. However, competition is becoming fierce between large international players and established domestic chains.
