Wockenfuss Candies will be celebrating 100 years in business in 2015. The business began when Herman Charles Wockenfuss immigrated to America from Germany. Now, with four generations currently involved in the business, it includes eight retail stores in Maryland and a growing internet business. Louis J. Rheb Candy Co. In 1917, Louis and Esther Rheb started making candy in the basement of their home. Louis was self-taught, studying from books and experimenting for many years. In the mid-1930s, they opened a stall in a local market and in 1950 they converted their garage into a store; it is still the main store today and the Rheb family is now in their fourth generation of candymaking.
