Worldwide standard for sustainable and traceable cocoa

In Copenhagen this past October, more than 50 representatives from the cocoa-producing and -processing countries officially agreed to begin working on an international standard (ISO) for sustainable and traceable cocoa. According to current plans, the standard is to be adopted in 2016. Currently, the most prominent standards for sustainable cocoa in the market are Fairtrade, Rainforest Alliance and UTZ. Many companies have begun using cocoa certified according to these standards in their products and have already undertaken a commitment to only use sustainable cocoa by a certain deadline (2015, 2020 or 2025).
