Nestle's UK KitKat to source cocoa from Rainforest Alliance

Nestle UK and its Ireland-based sister companies has announced that its KitKat brand will use Rainforest Alliance Certified cocoa beginning in October 2020. The business is investing more in sustainably-sourced cocoa. Nestle will provide financial support to enable Fair Trade farmers to certify their farms to the Rainforest Alliance Sustainable Agriculture Standard as well. Nestle and the Rainforest Alliance already have a long-standing partnership. The company will continue to work with the Alliance to build farmer resiliency, tackle key social and environmental issues, and empower fanners with the knowledge and skills to negotiate for themselves. The Nestle Cocoa Plan currently delivers 200,000 metric tons of certified sustainable cocoa annually. Through the plan, Nestle has provided millions of disease-resistant trees to cocoa communities, worked to reduce child labor through strengthening education and infrastructure, and has trained 114,000 farmers on sustainable farming best practice since 2018.
