Quite recently, a professorial friend and ex-colleague forwarded an email from one of her professorial ex-colleagues, who was seeking some pointers to any 'management literature' that might, 'describe the kind of organisational structure and management style that would be conducive to the 'bottom-up' approach for which [he'd] be arguing in the article' that he was intending to write. In other words, he'd continued, something along the lines of Gary Hamel's (2007) 'argument for 'reverse accountability' in making the case for some alternative to 'Fordist' management arrangements,' whilst also acknowledging that 'these arguments have been around for a long time.' Quite correct, they have. It's just that, sadly, no-one seems to pay any attention to them.
