These conventional binders have number of drawbacks like they required high curing temperature to fix the colour, which results in wastage of energy and also has the risk of destroying substrate. Also in conventional pigment printing polymeric dispersions in water are used as binders. After their application the water need to be evaporated & subsequent curing is necessary to cross-link binder, which is time and energy consuming process. Also some of them contain or liberate the carcinogen Aziridine. Hence to overcome these drawbacks massive innovation work is carried out to develop various types of new binders to have better flexibility, strength, bonding and chemical resistance. According to the requirement of the processors one can produce different quality binders just by replacing some components of co-polymers.
