As the functional finishes can increase the cost of clothing substantially, the efficacy of the finish should be tested. A mill has to bear substantial cost for the chemicals and auxiliaries for finishing. Hence the mills should be fully aware of the methods of evaluation of the various functional finishes. The use of various standard methods assures the customers of reliable performance and durability. Also the testing of functional finishes is necessary to obtain the optimum material at optimum price. However, the functions of these finishes depend upon the chemicals used. So the testing of the specialty chemicals is also important. Continuous research and development in the field is required to find out newer finishes.
