Nonwoven performance from fashion apparel perspective

Many of us think of fashion apparels only in terms of the traditional classifications-woven and knitted. Even though for decades, nonwovens have been used as supporting materials in the form of fusible interlinings and reinforcements for collars and cuffs, in the clothing industry, we are hesitant to consider nonwoven fabrics for the fashion outfits. It is implicated that nonwoven fabrics do not have the characteristics that can endorse them in the fashion industry as outfits. The aim of this paper is to review various performance characteristics of nonwovens with special reference to fashion apparel applications. The paper attempts to investigate the existing apparels property requirements such as physical, physiological, bio-mechanical, and psychological needs of consumers, that the nonwovens must satisfy to be considered as a sensible alternative to the woven fabrics in fashion outfits.
