Comparative analysis of total phenolic content of plant extracts for textiles

摘要

Natural products, especially plants are the sources of different classes of phytochemicals. Phenolics are aromatic compounds bearing one or more hydroxyl substituents. Plant phenolics include phenolic acids, flavonoids, tannins, stillbenes and lignins. In the present study plant extract from Jamun (Syzygium cumini,), curry (Murraya koenigii), litchi (Litchi chinensis) leaves and by-product of catechu (Acacia catechu) was prepared by using ethanol and methanol solvents. Total Phenolic Content of plant extracts was tested. The amount of total phenols was determined with the Folin-Ciocalteu reagent. Gallic acid was used as a standard compound and the total phenols were expressed as mg/g gallic acid equivalents. The maximum phenolic content was found in the methenolic extract of catechu (92.4 ± 0.14 mg/g).
