摘要

The Port of Johnstown, 100 kilometres south of Ottawa, is proving to be a rural Seaway port with major successes and even larger ambitions. "It's nice to see all of our investments and the hard work by our staff paying off," said Robert Dalley, the General Manager, in a recent interview. Formerly known as Prescott, the port was established in 1930 as the farthest point that grain could navigate down from Thunder Bay without encountering rapids. The Seaway's opening in 1959 forced the port to reorient itself towards accommodating local cash crops, which it continues to do. "About 80 per cent of our cargo is grain - wheat, soybean and corn - with approximately 350,000 metric tonnes going in and out," Mr. Dalley notes.
