Electric utility companies are shoring up coal-ash impoundment units based on recommendations issued by EPA inspectors after examinations of high-risk units, the agency said in a Feb. 4 statementrnIn 26 responses filed thus far with the agency, companies said they are taking steps to comply with the recommendations made in reports by dam safety experts who examined the impoundments in recent months. Most of the power companies were found to have no major problems during the inspections, but many were advised to make adjustments to their own inspection or emergency plans.
