BC Signs $32-Million Deal with First Nations to Boost LNG Industry

British Columbia (BC) has announced a $32-million deal with 15 First Nations along the proposed Pacific Trails pipeline to quell opposition to getting the fledgling liquefied natural gas (LNG) industry on its feet. The 460-km Pacific Trails pipeline will carry natural gas from Summit Lake, 55 km north of Prince George, to the Kitimat LNG facility proposed by Chevron and Apache. The province also announced the renewal of the Infrastructure Royalty Credit program, whereby the BC government will provide up to $120 million in royalty credits to LNG proponents, assuring taxpayers will see the money returned as the industry grows and a competitive tax environment emerges.
