The Sticky Notifications allows you to use Notification Center (OS X 10.8) or Growl (10.7 or 10.8) to post reminder alerts. In Lion, you don't even need to have Growl installed, since this app integrates the feature; in Mountain Lion, you can choose whether Sticky Notifications uses Growl or Notification Center. When you launch the app, a note icon appears in the menu bar. Click the icon, or press the app's customisable keyboard shortcut (I use Shift-Control-Option-S-N), and a window opens for you to type a title and, optionally, a subtitle and a message. Once you press Return (or click Notify), the reminder appears as either a Mountain Lion notification or a Growl alert. It stays until you dismiss it by clicking it (unless you're using Growl).
