As previously introduced and expanded on in multiple MacTech articles, AutoPkg is a tool that promotes consistency and repeatability for Mac admins trying to manage software. As I've experimented and tinkered with various aspects of the project, I've come across a few fundamentals I'd like to call attention to, and in doing so kick off a series on some of the better practices that can be applied to recipes you either inherit from others, or take it upon yourself to create. Before that, I wanted to go over a potentially lesser-known collection of recipes that are unique in the Mac software management world, as they incorporate the App Store (previously, the, "Mac App Store"). As software from the App Store is 'wrapped' with DRM, even when used with an institutions specific Apple ID, one may think it precludes mass distribution as you're not going to go to every computer that app has been installed on to enter the password and update it. Apple has not significantly changed their guidance since Final Cut X came out with App Store-only distribution, which instructed admins to push out the licensed application to multiple computers with Apple Remote Desktop as needed.
