Breakthrough for wood extrusion: Major contract for the construction of 50,000 houses made of wood fiber sections

Cincinnati Extrusion GmbH (Vienna) set up a wood extrusion competence center at the R 2001 in Duesseldorf covering all issues of wood processing together with its cooperation partners Fassalex, JRS, Tec-Wood and PPT. The center attracted incredible crowds. Not even the four companies expected such an enthusiastic response. This trade exhibit signaled the market breakthrough for wood extrusion. The product - sections made of fibrous material - and the production process have been known quantities for over ten years. The Dutch company Tech-Wood International B.V., Rotterdam - one of the cooperation partners of Cincinnati Extrusion GmbH (Vienna) represented at the joint stand on SMS plastics technology - landed a major contract at the trade show. In the next five years, the largest plastics processor in the Caribbean, Industrias Vassallo Inc. (Puerto Rico), is going to produce wood sections for 50,000 hurricane-proof dwellings. Some of these wood houses are to be built as part of a government program in Puerto Rico, others are holiday homes on the Caribbean islands St. Martin, St. Croix and in the Dominican Republic. Each house consists of just six different hollow sections made of artificial wood. Wood sections are used exclusively for both the roof framing and the walls, but the wall sections are filled with concrete to protect the houses against all types of vibration. Vassallo is acquiring a license from the Dutch company Tech-Wood to produce the wood sections. Another part of the contract is an agreement that calls for TechWood to produce sections at its own plant in the Netherlands for the first 1000 houses until the new Vassallo production facilities in Puerto Rico are completely set up and equipped.
