Almost all of us have experienced at least one discouraging career setback. If this hasn't happened to you yet, you probably haven't tried to accomplish anything significant. Early in my career, I was feeling confident that I would be promoted from sales representative to supervisor. So when I was told that I would be given a new position, I was jubilant. But the move turned out to be a lateral one to a notorious dead-end. It was well known that the last person to hold that position had failed miserably and had left the company. But to everyone's surprise (including my own), I was extraordinarily successful and, as a result, I was promoted to supervisor. The bounce-back worked.
