摘要

While container carrier losses worldwide have declined by 50 percent over the past decade, 75 ships were lost in 2014, according to a recent study. A report published by the international insurance firm Allianz Global Corporate and Specialty (AGCS), found more than a third of 2014's total losses took place in two maritime regions. Seventeen ships were lost in the seas serving South China, Indo China, Indonesia, and the Philippines. Meanwhile, 12 vessels sank in the trade lanes linking Japan, Korea, and North China. Foundering-or ship sinking-was the most common type of loss, with 49 going down last year. This represented 65 percent of cargo vessel losses in 2014. The next worst category was "grounding," with 13 ships left wrecked or stranded. Finally, four additional vessels were lost as a consequence of fire or explosion.
