In 1977 the line operated from the middle station, Silvestre, to the top station only. The lower section was only used for internal runs, which were a necessity. To reach Silvestre I walked from the terminus of Santa Teresa tram (Bondinho) to Silvestre station and after the ride to the top and back walked along the track of the rack line down to the base station, Cosmo Velho. I wouldn't recommend either again, for safety reasons.
