BRITAIN'S WORLD OF STEAM - WHERE ARE THEY NOW?

Back in 2002, Locomotives International published a book entitled Britain's World of Steam. This was an illustrated review of locomotives which were now preserved in the UK, but had either been built oversea or spent a significant part of their working life there. (Ed: Don't miss out - a small number of copies remain in stock!) Now, over ten years on, we are launching this new feature which provides an update on the preservation career of locomotives built overseas, but which either are or were preserved in the UK. We begin with SNCF Chapelon Pacific 231K22, seen at Carnforth on 11th September 1976. This locomotive was built for the PLM by Chantiers de la Loire c1920. For all of its PLM career, the locomotive was based at Avignon, where it stayed after the founding of SNCF in 1938.
