Energy Star Program For Lighting Products

The energy star program is a voluntary information program that defines performance attributes for products promoting good quality and energy efficiency. The program is administered by EPA, except for CFLs, where the program is administered jointly with DOE. The Energy Star qualification is used by many industries such as computers, televisions, office equipment and other energy consuming products. For residential and commercial lighting, the Energy Star program covers residential light fixtures, exit signs and screw-based CFLs with electronic ballasts. Since many individuals who purchase lighting products may not fully understand the energy or performance attributes of a product, the Energy Star label helps them to identify qualifying products.
