LEDs have been called many things-flashy, glitzy, dazzling-but understated and inconspicuous are usually not among them. So it was surprising to hear lighting designer Mitchell Rohn's description of the exterior illumination of The Residences at Riverbend-a 37-story high-rise residential tower on the Chicago River. "By using blue LEDs, we were able to highlight, not overpower, the building's distinctive features.
