Edward Bartholomew created this manifesto for himself in 1995, while attending graduate school. And like the gift that keeps on giving, these principles have since helped guide his career as a lighting designer and now as an assistant professor at the University of Washington. "I am still in awe of the power of light in our lives. I feel even more connected to it today because I advocate, teach and design lighting that impacts the public in a significant way," he says. "I think it was important to have a manifesto like that early in my career to help me defend my relationship to light. But today I have broadened my interest and passions to embrace the entire visual environment, including a profound appreciation of daylight and darkness."
