Tyne & Wear Metro gets in fast to beat the Olympic Games cash drain

Will the North East get less money for public transport because money is needed in London to promote the 2012 Olympic Games? This is the growing fear amongst business leaders and politicians determined to protect the Tyne and Wear Metro. It has spurred Nexus, the Tyne & Wear PTE, to make a quick submission to the Government for major investment. Under Project Orpheus, support is sought to reinvigorate the present Metro, which is reaching 25 years of age. While the original focus of 'Orpheus' included street-running tramways, this is unlikely to re-surface from some years.
