Zurich West comes in under budget

The 3.2km (two-mile) Tram Zurich West extension has been completed for CHF230m (EUR202.5m). compared with original estimates of CHF300m (EUR264m) thanks to reduced prices in the construction industry. Passengers will start using the line from Escher-Wyss-Platz to Altstetten-Nord in December. The next tramway project for Switzerland's largest city will be the CHFlOOm (EUR88m) link from Escher-Wyss-Platz to Hardplatz, taking route 8 to Werdholzli in place of route 17; construction is planned for 2015-16.
