'After years of focusing on metros,China's cities are turning to trams'

Predicting a significant market with over 40 under-development tramway projects over the next decade, Germar Wacker, Bombardier Transportation's President, Light Rail Vehicles, explores the exciting possibilities in China. In late July, both Bombardier Transportation and Siemens signed technology transfer agreements with Chinese rolling stock manufacturers for access to their advanced low-floor tram technology (see TAUT 897 for more details). TAUT spoke to Germar Wacker, President of Bombardier's Light Rail Vehicle division about its agreement with CSR Puzhen to license the 100% low-floor Flexity tram technology and its components. Here, he discusses the background to the deal and the potential for Chinese cities to adopt modern low-floor tramways over the coming decade.
