Changsha opens China's 19th metro system

The first metro line in the Chinese city of Changsha (Hunan province) opened on 29 April; the city is the 19th on the Chinese mainland to offer metro service. The first phase of line 2 (Blue) extends 22.3km (13.9 miles), and has taken five years to construct at a cost of CNY12.1bn (EUR1.43bn). It links the western suburbs, across the Xiangjiang River, with Wuyi Square in the city centre and the city's main railway station before continuing south to Changsha South station and terminating at Guangda.
