Astana LRT work begins

Construction of the 22.4km (13.9-mile) light rail line linking Astana International Airport with the future Nurly Zhol rail terminus east of the Kazakh capital - opening in June - began in May. The line will feature 18 new stops and a depot near the airport that will house an initial fleet of 19 low-floor trams. Construction is in the hands of a Chinese consortium of China Railway International Group and Assets Management Co. in a contract agreed in May 2015.
