As reported briefly last month, opening of the 11.9km (7.4-mile) Yizhuang tramline T1 took place on 31 December rather than the planned 19 December date. The new line, from Dinghalyuan to Quzhuang, is in the south-east suburbs and feeds the Yizhuang suburban metro line (Songjiazhuang -Yizhuang railway station) at Rongchangdongjie. The Yizhuang metro is effectively a southern extension of city metro line 5.The Yizhuang tramway is worked by five-section low-floor trams built by Beijing Subway Rolling Stock Equipment Company, better known for building trains for the city's metro. The Beijing metro operating company has a 49% interest in the manufacturer.
