A novel method for extraction of alumina from red mud using arndivalent alkaline earth metal oxide soda ash sinter processrnfollowed by thermo chemical leaching in suitable causticrnconcentration at 105℃ for different times is presented in thisrnpaper. During sintering Sodalite/Cancrinite, Gibbsite andrnBoehmite in red mud is converted to sodium aluminate as wellrnas stable phases of divalent alkaline earth metal ferrite, titanaternand silicate. In the above novel economic process an extractionrnof alumina from red mud of 97.64%, 98.7% and 99.5% wasrnachieved using CaO, MgO and BaO respectively. Thernmorphological study of sinter products and leached productsrnwas studied using SEM and XRD.
