摘要

"We're worried about katrina fatigue,"said Tania Tetlow, chair of the board of the New Orleans Public Library (NOPL) and a lawyer who teaches at Tulane. "This event is unprecedented in American history. The country must continue to care." No matter how often you've seen the devastation on television, nothing prepares you for the reality of the struggle residents of New Orleans face to bring their city back. In the Lower Ninth Ward, cars lie atop or are buried beneath row after row of flattened houses as far as you can see. People still wait for FEMA trailers to call home, now that the cruise ships where they bunked finally have pulled out. Libraries like the joint-use public/school Martin Luther King branch are filled with the rubble of books, shelving, DVDs, PCs, and much more, lying in mud and stinking of mold.
