Before he was Dr. House, Hugh Laurie starred as Dr. Paul Slippery in this British series based on a novel by British Academy of Film and Television Arts and Emmy~R Award winner Nigel Williams. Laurie and costar Anna Chancellor are at their wits' end as a couple still finding their way in life amid crises involving work, children, friends, neighbors, sex, love, and trust. The comedy stretches from bawdy slapstick to sarcastic asides, and Laurie, who also assumes codirecting duties, is up to it all, making Paul seem both sympathetic and silly. Bound to be of interest to regular watchers of House, M.D. and those who crave British TV. A good example of how libraries can provide alternative programs along with the big shows that may ultimately be of less enduring value.
